We had organised to meet Bonnie this morning - she runs walking tours of the city and had been recommended to us. We had never been on one of these before... it was fabulous! She is a walking, talking Savannah encyclopedia. Savannah is a flat city, laid out in straight streets with lots of town squares (22 to be exact). Bonnie walked us around for 2 hours and told us all sorts of interesting, funny, sad, gory stories about the city, its origins, its buildings and its people. She brought Savannah to life for us.
And the best part? According to our boys it was the story about Leopold Icecream, the store is over 100 years old and tutti frutti flavour was invented there (the song came from a happy customer!) We sampled the ice cream, it was pretty good.
For us? I loved the look and feel of Savannah, it is a beautiful city with so many pretty gardens and buildings. Mike loved the Civil War and Revolution stories, also the stories about John and Charles Wesley and George Whitfield who were clergy here at the start of the settlement.
