The famous Blue Ridge Parkway has lived up to its reputation – all except the traffic. In that we are driving it in early Spring, there are still sections that are closed daily because of snow and many of the normal attractions are closed till April. This means that we are pretty much the only people on the road making travelling really easy.
It is spectacular on so many levels: the distances you can see, the ridge lines in every direction, the waterfalls, the gorgeous flora, the cold, and even the little towns and hamlets all along here – thousands of people live up here along the parkway 4000 feet and more above sea level. It is quite idyllic.
Of great excitement was the snow and our very first snow fight; big smiles and cold hands all round.
For me this is a real boost to morale. One of God’s gifts to me is how he lifts my spirit when I see beautiful sights of his creation – one of the reasons it is so great living in Shellharbour. Up on the Parkway such sights are everywhere we look, but not so before now. In fact when we drove up our very first hill that was not a bridge I became quite excited. Since landing in Florida everywhere has been so incredibly pancake flat, scenery was only as far as the nearest tree. Everywhere we went in Florida, Georgia & South Carolina was the same. It is truly wonderful to be up with the birds once more here in North Carolina.
Loving the scenery.
Michael
