the rocket garden
First, we went on a 3 hour bus tour that takes you around the area showing you all the different things there are to see. Our first stop was at a sighting tower where you could see the launch pad from which Discovery launched. Next the bus took us to the command centre for the moon rockets. It told us all about the Apollo series, the problems they had, how they were made and about the astronauts in them. After that the buses took us back to the main area.
After that we went out, got into our RV and drove off. We were in a massive traffic jam because of a fire which cut off the road so we had dinner and fell asleep in the RV.
Yesterday we went to Kennedy Space Center. First in the morning we got up and had some breakfast. Then we got dressed, hopped into the RV and drove off to Kennedy Space Center.
Kennedy Space Center is where all the rockets and space shuttles are made and launched. It is named after John F. Kennedy, one of the very famous American presidents who paid for all the gear to help make space travel possible – when he was alive. The most recent shuttle launched into space was Discovery, which I saw take off!
When we got there we queued up to get tickets to go in. It took us quite a while but eventually we got there. We bought our tickets and went in.

Then Luke and I went on a space shuttle simulator where we really felt like we were taking off in a space shuttle! It shook us heaps though. Next we went to a rocket garden which was a big area with replicas of all the rockets that were launched into space and to the moon. Then we watched an incredible imax movie about the Hubble telescope. I really really enjoyed it.

Thanks Max! I wish i was there with you, especially standing next to the Apollo rocket engines! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photo of the shuttle lift off. How loud was the noise?
